Research & Publications

Research Summary

Dr. Naik's research focuses on understanding the epidemiology and mechanisms of venous thromboembolism and chronic kidney disease in sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait.  Her studies were the first to demonstrate the association between sickle cell trait and end-stage renal disease.  Her work has also been instrumental in documenting the high risk of venous thromboembolism in sickle cell disease and trait.  By defining risk factors for these complications, her research aims to improve the lives of individuals with sickle hemoglobinopathies.
